This book has been on my Kindle for ages, and I have no idea why it took me so long to finally open it and read it. I guess that I should warn you about the fact that Accidentally on Purpose is actually a story about a love triangle. I know many readers do not like this type of story at all, and i have my issues with it as well, but I have to say that author L.D. Davis really managed to turn such a "delicate" subject into a story of emotional overload and suspense.

Accidentally On Purpose starts with a late night drunk encounter between Esmeralda "Emmy" Graynes and Kyle Sterling. However, it turns out that Emmy is actually Kyle's assistant and office manager, and that she hates Kyle for being such a notorious d-head to her and everyone else in the office. Of course, Kyle's behaviour isn't changed from that one-night-stand, and Emmy is well aware of the fact that Kyle has a girlfriend. That's also why she says yes to a date with Luke Kessler, another Sterling employee and lawyer. But Kyle isn't about to let Emmy go. And frankly, Emmy can't let Kyle go, either.
"Kyle was a drug and I was the addict. Every time I would try to break it off with Kyle, he would somehow convince me not to, and maybe I didn't really want to, or I would have stuck to my guns."

The story that then follows unfolds over almost 2 years, and I was impressed at how well the writing was executed and how suspenseful the story had been made. This book will bring a whirlwind of emotions and you never quite know who you want to side with: Emmy, Luke or Kyle? They all have their flaws as much as they are endearing to some extent. However, by the end of the book, it becomes clear exactly who you want to side with.
"Anyone who can rationalize love through intellect, has no idea what love is, for it is an emotion, and cannot be rationalized. For love is crazy."

The whole story is told through Emmy's POV in first person. I really, really liked Emmy as a heroine. She was strong, intelligent, knew how to stand up for herself, yet she still demonstrated a couple of weaknesses, which made her so incredibly real. Also, it is clear that this book is not at all a praise or encouragement for love triangles: on the contrary, there is a heavy moral at the end of the story, and the heroine is literally carrying the weight of her guilt. She desperately wants to make things right, but circumstances make it difficult for her, and she just can't bing herself to make a choice. The cover of the book (the newest edition at least), is a perfect representation of Emmy - feelings wise. And trust me, I loathe covers with actual faces on them because they block my imagination! But this one: totally fitting.
"At times, I foolishly believed that either Luke or Kyle would give up with ease, wish me well, and move on with their heart intact. Sometimes I imagined that I would choose one of them, but we would all be good friends."

All in all, the story is very faceted and full of unexpected turning points, so there's not a single boring page in this book. I was literally hooked on this rollercoaster of emotions!

Accidentally On Purpose has two sequels, one being Kyle's story after book 1, and the second one being Luke's POV during the triangle. I truly can't wait to read more about this awesome author, so I'll certainly check them out!

Accidentally on Purpose edition by LD Davis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I have read hundreds of romantic novels. I rarely give a five-star rating to one. However, this book certainly deserves it. The characters are well-developed. Emmy seems to be a woman who is in total, control of her life. Although she is independently wealthy, she has chosen to work. Her managerial skills as the executive assistant to CEO, Kyle Sterling is without fault. However, her personal life is in shambles. Emmy's conflicting romantic relationships with Kyle and Luke kept me enthralled. What would make a beautiful, intelligent, rich woman like Emmy involve herself in a demeaning affair with Kyle? Why would she convince Luke her relationship with him was monogamous? The author deftly reveals how Emmy's past and present relationships with her family and friends makes her vulnerable. I was delighted with the way the author exposed the strengths and weaknesses of each of the characters. The resolution of plot was believable. Me Davis has a fan in me!
*I'm reviewing my own personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads*
2.5 stars
What to say, what to say...
I really kind of hated this book. I get that a love triangle has angst and deep rooted emotions, unfortunately this story just fell short.
I really wanted to like this, but the characters were annoying at best. Emmy didn't act or speak like a 30 year old, professional woman. Her actions led me to believe she was barely 20! Kyle had absolutely NO positive characteristics whatsoever and I really question how/why they "loved" each other. The majority of this story is "told" to you (narrative), dialogue wasn't prevalent -and when it DID occur it sounded like Young Adult.
Beyond these issues, the story itself wasn't very exciting, it was annoying and frustrating. At first we have a strong, selfish heroine who gets tangled up with 2 men that she loves (at the same time). When Luke decides he's done, Emmy continues her affair with Kyle (did I mention he has a girlfriend?) until he gets violent. This is the point that Emmy just becomes guilt-ridden, depressed, and self-deprecating. Taking off from her home and rebuilding a life (sort-of) in a new city.

Luke, oh poor Luke, he seriously got the short end of the stick in this story. Emmy returns to him in Chicago and luckily, he takes her in...
And everyone lived happily ever after. UGH.

THEN the HUGE revelation at the end of the book...Drugs?!? This is the reason for the violence?

I don't know, this just wasn't for me.
